Students Awarded 2016 Dakotas’ CU Scholarships

Bismarck, N.D.—The Credit Union Associationof the Dakotas recently awarded ten $500 Dakotas’ Credit Union High School Financial Scholarships to students from North and South Dakota.

The scholarship is designed for high school seniors who are credit union members.

North Dakota recipients:

  • Marc P. Michaelson, a senior graduating from Dickinson High School in Dickinson, is a  member of Western Cooperative Credit Union.
  • Jillian R. Jassek, a senior graduating from Trinity High School in Dickinson, is a member of Western Cooperative Credit Union.
  • Katelyn M. Long, a senior graduating from Napoleon in Napoleon, is a member of First Community Credit Union.
  • Gillian B. Dahl, a senior graduating from Ronald N. Davies High School in Fargo, is a member of First Community Credit Union
  • Jenna M. Routledge, a senior graduating from Minot High School in Minot, is a member of GEM Federal Credit Union.

South Dakota recipients:

  • Nicole M. Metter, a senior graduating from Huron High School in Huron, is a member of Huron Area Education Federal Credit Union.
  • Tamisen D. Ames, a senior graduating from Miller High School in Miller, is a member of Dakotaland Federal Credit Union.
  • Andrew S. Canaan, a senior graduating from Douglas High School in Box Elder, is a member of Highmark Federal Credit Union.
  • Jaydn P. Broughton, a senior graduating from Canton High School in Canton, is a member of Service First Federal Credit Union.
  • Taylor L. Peck, a senior graduating from Wolsey-Wessington High School in Wolsey, is a  member of Dakotaland Federal Credit Union.

All of the students plan to use the individual $500 scholarships to pursue degrees in higher education, the league said.

A panel of five judges selected the students based upon a selected essay written by the students. The applicants chose to write about one of two topics: “How, through your involvement in the community/school activities, events, or volunteer efforts have you shown the cooperative spirit?” or “What can your credit union do to continue providing you with financial solutions for a lifetime?”
