SUFFOLK, N.Y.–Suffolk FCU has provided donations to two local charities while also announcing a scholarship program.
Suffolk Federal Meford, N.Y. Assistant Branch Manager Megan Diehl Branch Manager Vagira Seedeen of Suffolk Federal presented a $500 contribution to Walk to End Alzheimer’s Walk (Yaphank) Event Co-Chair Jane Waller and Alzheimer's Association Associate Director of Development Judy Wichter. Suffolk Federal members and employees also contributed to the cause through a branch-wide fundraising effort and by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association recent Walk to End Alzheimer’s event raising nearly an additional $2,500.
“I have seen firsthand what Alzheimer’s can do to a person and how it effects families,” said Diehl. “All of us here at Suffolk Federal are proud to support the incredible work of the Alzheimer’s Association, which provides vital services to Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers while bearing the burden of the costs involved.”
Separately, at right, Medford Branch Manager Vagira Seedeen Assistant Branch Manager Megan Diehl and Chief Lending Officer Keith Miller presented a $500 contribution to Town of Brookhaven Commissioner Martin W. Haley, (left), Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed P. Romaine, Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter Director Ashley Behrens and Frank the Pug (center).
“I am personally a strong proponent of rescue animals,” said Seedeen. “At Suffolk Federal, we’re certainly proud to support the incredible service that the Brookhaven Animal Shelter provides to rescue animals in our community. It is a comfort to know that these animals are being cared for and respected while they wait to share their love with their prospective owners.”
Finally, Suffolk Federal said it will award scholarships of $1,500 each to 10 young deserving members. One scholarship winner will also receive an additional $2,500 scholarship provided by the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation which Suffolk Federal will match for a total of $5,000.
“A fundamental commitment for Suffolk Federal is to support our younger generation as they fulfill their dream of attending college by easing the financial burden,” said President and CEO Ralph D. Spencer, Jr. “Each year, we provide financial support to ten dedicated high school seniors. The goal is to mobilize and support these students as they begin their college experience and future career goals. Our hope is to provide the tools which will enable them to become responsible adults who will make a positive impact in the world,” he continued.
