LAKE JACKSON, Texas— TDECU’s Kristina Barrow-Booth stepped up to help Brazoria County residents affected by the recent flooding. Initially helping out with Samaritan’s Purse, Barrow-Booth found an incredible amount of flood victims were asking questions about lost and damaged furniture, the credit union said. Upon discovery of this need, Barrow-Booth began working with the Brazoria County Dream Center, Brazoria County Office of Emergency Management, Seventh Day Adventist Disaster Response, FEMA Corps, United Way and TDECU for assistance in putting a furniture drive into place.
In total, volunteers worked over 400 hours and collected approximately 250 pieces of much-needed furniture and appliances. The effort assisted 58 households with donations and referrals to assistance agencies.
When asked about the furniture drive, Barrow-Booth noted, “I couldn’t have done it without the teamwork and support I received from TDECU as an organization, and my co-workers who helped organize the furniture drive. Being out there, helping the community has helped me to learn more about our Members and what they’re going through. TDECU’s commitment to improving lives continues to motivate me to give back and help others.”
