SOUTH BEND, Ind.–Leading up to the May 9 Community Foundation of St. Joseph County “Give Local Day” initiative, Teachers Credit Union has pledged ongoing financial support of the urban educational ecosystem and Unity Gardens’ new Community Learning Center.
TCU is giving $5,000 toward Unity Gardens’ building fund and via the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County’s24-hour giving event which on Tuesday the gift could balloon to as much as $10,000. Designed to support St. Joseph county charities, Give Local Day is intended to inspire people to give generously to the nonprofit organizations that do so much good work for the community. All donations on the day are matched by the Community Foundation’s matching pool of $2.4 million. Combined with a challenge grant of $10,000, this support goes far to ensure Unity Gardens can continue to grow.
Since 2008, Unity Gardens has made a positive impact by helping thousands in St. Joseph County access to fresh produce at no charge. Through its community outreach and educational programs, Unity Gardens’ reach to South Bend, Granger, Lakeville, Mishawaka, North Liberty and Walkerton has become a nationally-known beacon for environmental sustainability and neighborhood revitalization.
