U of M Cu Awards 12 Scholarships

ANN ARBOR, Mich.– University of Michigan Credit Union awarded $8,500 in scholarships to 12 local high school seniors through its Youth Scholarship program.

The UMCU Youth Scholarship program was launched in December 2021 to help eligible students with monetary tuition support or other educational expenses at an accredited college or technical school in the United States. It also serves to promote financial literacy with free resources and guides for young adults.

The winners were chosen based on a specific set of criteria and selected by an independent panel of UMCU team members. Out of 50 applications, 12 were designated as having met or exceeded all criteria, including, community involvement, work experience, commitment to financial literacy and financial well-being, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and a letter of reference that spoke to the students’ character and community impact, the credit union said.

Awards were handed out by UMCU Financial Education Manager Mark Munzenberger at a morning reception held at UMCU’s Jackson Road branch location.
