COLUMBUS, Ohio–The communities of Parma and Brunswick, Ohio came together to wipe out identity theft while raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network. Cars stretched out into the streets as local residents brought confidential information to be destroyed at the branches of Unity Catholic Federal Credit Union for its annual Shred Day event.
“We want to drive down the number of identity theft victims in Ohio,” said Brian McCue, president/CEO of Unity Catholic.
“Improper disposal of personal data can increase the risk of identity theft. Shred Day is an amazing event and we thrilled so many in our community have embraced it.”
In addition to shredding thousands of pounds of sensitive documents, the Parma and Brunswick communities raised $384 for Children’s Miracle Network. Unity Catholic accepted donations for the nonprofit that helps fund children’s hospitals, medical research and community awareness of children’s health issues.
“At Unity Catholic, we appreciate the incredible impact of Children’s Miracle Network,” McCue said. “Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital does incredible work in our local community saving kids’ lives. With Shred Day and many other fundraising events throughout the year, we’re able to make a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of children in our state.”
