WESTERLY, R.I.–Westerly Community Credit Union (WCCU) continued its partnership with South County Health by donating $150,000 to help the healthcare system expand on its innovation and patient-centric model of care, making high quality healthcare accessible to all.
“This donation is part of Westerly Community Credit Union’s #WCCUCares initiative to support local community organizations that directly help people in our communities. We care about our local community and strive to help make a positive impact by actively being involved in the communities we serve,” said President/CEO Stephen White. “We are very excited for the opportunity to work with South County Health to help improve access to healthcare and provide the latest technology to enhance the patient experience.”
Among the improvements in technology is the Radiation Therapy facility that is now owned and operated as a service of South County Hospital to complement its Cancer Center. Renovations included the purchase of a new linear accelerator, a technology that emits specific doses of radiation targeted with pinpoint accuracy directly to the tumor site, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
This upgrade was a priority of South County Health to ensure that the most advanced radiation delivery systems are accessible to cancer patients in Washington County, the credit union said.
