Workers CU Wins 2 Awards

LITTLETON, Mass.––The Massachusetts chapter of the Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) recognized Workers Credit Union with two first-place awards: The 2023 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award for the credit union’s charitable program, Workers Kindness, and the 2023 Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award for the credit union’s financial education program, the Workers Way.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award was presented for the CU’s Workers Kindness program, which gives members a voice in directing a portion of Workers Credit Union’s charitable giving. Last year, Workers Credit Union donated more than $440,000 to 205 charitable organizations.

“Philanthropic giving is directly tied to building financially strong communities,” said Jay Champion, interim president and CEO of Workers Credit Union. “Workers Kindness is a tool members can use to positively impact the places where they live and work. It is their opportunity to improve their communities.”

The Desjardin Adult and Youth Financial Education award was presented for the  Workers Way program, a proprietary approach to helping members take control of their future and achieve their goals at every life stage through personalized one-on-one financial coaching.

The coaching sessions have assisted members in meeting their goals including successfully paying off debts, creating emergency savings funds, and purchasing items that help them achieve their dreams, the credit union said.

“Since our founding, Workers Credit Union has existed to serve the needs of its members and uplift the community,” said Elizabeth Hayes, chief member officer of Workers Credit Union. “Today’s recognitions reflect our commitment to that mission and the inventive, driven, and compassionate spirit of our team.”
