Wyoming CUs Contribute During International CU Day

CHEYENNE, Wyo.–Credit unions across Wyoming celebrated International Credit Union Day. In all, credit unions in the state contributed more than 40 hours in volunteered time, along with more than $18,000 in donations. CUs participating in the collaboration included Atlantic City Federal Credit Union, Laramie Plains FCU, UniWyo FCU, Meridian Trust FCU, Reliant FCU, River Rail Community FCU, Trona Valley FCU and Warren FCU.

Among the achievements of the promotion were:

  • Atlantic City Federal Credit Union (Lander) donated 239 meals for seniors in their community. The team also participated in random acts of kindness buy purchasing coffee for patrons. In all, they purchased coffee for 181 people and donated eight total hours of employee volunteer time.
  • Laramie Plains Federal Credit Union (Laramie) contributed in a variety of service and community projects throughout the day. They swept leaves in downtown Laramie, brought food to seniors and contributed to local events at the Chamber of Commerce. In all, they donated $355 and a combined 13 hours in employee volunteerism.
  • UniWyo Federal Credit Union (Laramie) engaged their community outreach program “surprise and delights” by randomly buying coffees, lunches and donuts in various local places.
  • Meridian Trust (Cheyenne) collected 5,100 canisters of oatmeal to provide 35,700 breakfasts. They also helped with utility payments. They held a credit union quiz and winners received $100 towards their utility bill and could designate an additional winner for another $100. In all, they helped pay $1,200 worth of bills.
  • Reliant Federal Credit Union (Casper, Douglas, Glenrock) partnered with local coffee shops to buy patrons their morning cup of java. In all, they purchased coffee for 266 people.
  • River Rail Community Federal Credit Union (Green River) collected food in their branches to be donated to local food banks.
  • Trona Valley Federal Credit Union (Green River) partnered to help residents of Mansface Terrace, an assisted living facility. Employees helped with paperwork for financial assistance, spent time with residents, donated books, arranged to have carpets cleaned for residents, provided gift cards to help with expenses and “adopted” a resident. Employees will continue to visit and help “M,” a resident who simply asked for company. In addition, the credit union made several other charitable donations, delivered snack baskets to local schools, and made a donation to Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center to complete fundraising for a new ice cream machine for the facility.
  • Warren Federal Credit Union (Cheyenne) provided cookies, and other snacks in each branch lobby to say thank you to members.

Each credit union expressed thankfulness in their ability to participate in the events. It was a true testament to the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” and engaging in the communities they serve.
