MADISON, Wis.–More than 300,000 Americans joined credit unions during January, while loan balances were up nearly 11% and savings was up 6% on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the latest Trends Report from CUNA Mutual Group.

WASHINGTON—It’s been roughly six months since the Oct. 1 deadline for U.S. merchants to upgrade their payment terminals as part of the country’s shift to smart-chip credit cards, and 42% of retailers have not updated the terminals in any of their stores.

WASHINGTON–CUNA ran a full-page ad in the Washington publication Politico yesterday to thank the more than 300 members of Congress who have signed a letter calling on the CFPB to exempt credit unions from its rulemaking.
