TACOMA, Wash.–Mike Beall, the former president of the DC/Maryland and Missouri CU leagues, has been named chief strategic and advocacy officer by CU Strategic Planning. Beall had been working with the company as a contract consultant, but is now joining full time to help manage what the firm described as its “significant growth beyond CDFI grant writing.”

WASHINGTON–CUNA’s Credit Union Legislative Action Committee (CULAC) is making a $250,000 independent expenditure on advertising to help Rep. Brad Ashford (D-NE) in his re-election effort. Ashford, who is a first-term member of Congress, is in a tight race with Republican Don Bacon for the seat, for which Libertarian Steven Baird is also vying. Bacon is a retired brigadier general who has not previously held office.

WASHINGTON–CUNA has officially announced the dates of the largest credit union event of the year, its 2017 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference. The event will be held Feb. 26 to March 2 in Washington, with CUNA saying 5,000 people are expected.
