That was the blunt message from Becky Reed, COO of Bank Social, who on Wednesday told attendees at the Defense Credit Union Council Annual Conference here they need to act now to integrate distributed ledger technology (DLT) into their payments infrastructure—or risk ceding the future of financial services to outside players.

WASHINGTON--Credit unions continue to find new ways to innovate and serve members through the use of artificial intelligence, and there are several principles policymakers should follow to ensure this can continue. America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle outlined these principles in a letter to a Senate Banking subcommittee in advance of its hearing on AI’s role in capital and insurance markets.

WASHINGTON—One day after 52 state bankers associations called on the Treasury Department to examine whether credit unions still align with the intent of their tax-exempt status, the Defense Credit Union Council is urging Treasury to launch a formal review into the implications of banks operating under Subchapter S corporation status.
