VALDOSTA, Ga.-The communities served by Southeastern Federal Credit Union, including Valdosta and Tifton, Georgia, have successfully filled an entire semi-truck full of food donations to benefit Second Harvest of South Georgia. More than 36,000 pounds of food were collected in September during Southeastern's first annual Fill-a-Truck for Hunger food drive, far exceeding the community goal of 20,000 pounds. With the community challenge met, Southeastern FCU will donate a second truck full of food. All donations will benefit Second Harvest of South Georgia.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.– 121 Financial Credit Union has broken ground on a new Middleburg branch at 1714 Blanding Boulevard at Branan Field Road. The new facility, which is being built by Scherer Construction of North Florida, will have approximately 3,900 square feet, plus three drive-through lanes, a 24-hour drive-up ATM and safe deposit boxes. Architectural design was done by Reynolds, Smith and Hills.

SAN ANTONIO-Security Service Federal Credit Union (SSFCU) has been named the healthiest employer in San Antonio by the San Antonio Business Journal. The credit union topped the list for large employers in the annual survey that showcases those employers who proactively shape the health and wellness of their employees.This year’s awards event took place at the Historic Pearl Development in downtown San Antonio and included a one-mile fitness walk and a health fair. We believe when employees feel their workplace has a strong culture of health, they are happier, less stressed and more likely to improve their well-being,” said CEO Jim Laffoon.

MIDLAND, Mich.—Staff at Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union took time to clean up the boulevard in front of the credit union. Wearing bright-yellow reflector vests, employees cleaned up trash and other debris between East Lyon and East Patrick roads between Pine and Washington streets, including the area around the bicycle and pedestrian path that runs through the boulevard area.  Staff had earlier cleaned up nearly three miles of shoulder area along eastbound and westbound US-10 between the Stark Road and Eastman Road exits. The team picked up 65 garbage bags full of trash during the cleanup.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.--Peach State Credit Union has donated a portion of its proceeds from the 19th Annual Northeast Georgia Chapter of Credit Unions golf tournament to Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry, Inc. Founded in 1995, the food bank and financial support group has received $1,000 to advance their initiative to help members of the community become self-sufficient.  Each year, the Chapter designates charities in the counties served by its 19 participating credit unions to receive proceeds from their annual golf tournament.

AURORA, Ill.-Some 187 high school students from Waubonsie Valley High School learned just how complicated it is to make household budgetary choices when they participated in the recent Mad City Money program facilitated by Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU). The program helps our young adults learn what it is like to try to budget and manage a real life salary and real life situations. Students were given an occupation along with a salary, family, student loan debt, credit card debt, and cost of medical insurance to create a monthly budget as they visited various merchants and made decisions based on the management of their income.

BASTROP, Texas--Greater TEXAS FCU was voted Runner Up for the BEST of Bastrop County Financial Services at the BEST of Bastrop Awards Celebration. Voting was conducted online.

HAUPPAUGUE, N.Y.--Teachers FCU is hosting its first-ever “TFCUniversity Business Clinic” at its headquarters here. The first series event is entitled, “Secrets to Building Your Business on Long Island” and is designed to “bring together Long Island business owners and leaders to learn about cutting-edge topics and trends needed to have a successful business.” The credit union intends to host the business clinics on a quarterly basis. The first event featured keynoter Susan Axelrod, founder of Love & Quiches, the highly successful company she started in the kitchen of her home 40 years ago. The event will also include a panel discussion moderated by Henry Bramwell, president of Visionary. Panelists will include Clay Darrohn, CEO of Fishbat; Barry Shorten, co-founder of Alcott HR, and David Jacobson, CEO of GrooveCar.
